Initiatives

Alongside top-class consultancy services, dialog with and commitment to society, sport and science is important to us. Learning to recognize and understand the problems of people with a disability, Nepalese children, or drug addicts means dealing with completely new situations and developing greater sensitivity towards others. This is exciting as well as enriching – for both sides.

Nepal Aid “Beilngries”

Nepal Aid Beilngries was established in 1990 as a charitable private initiative to offer support those in need in Nepal. The goal of this organization is to provide humanitarian aid in the most direct way possible, without any administrative red tape. The guiding principle for all the organization’s activities is “helping people to help themselves”. ESPRiT provides particular support for the most prominent facility run by Nepal Aid Beilngries: The Shaligram orphanage in Lhubhu, around 12 km southeast of Katmandu. This orphanage provides a home for up to 35 girls and boys. They get all the love and security they need, as well as practical support in the form of schooling and vocational training. This approach fits well with the approach of consulting firm ESPRiT, as ESPRiT also focuses on training and further education.

To be specific, the money donated by ESPRiT is used to cover the daily requirements of the orphanage. Examples of some of the good uses of the money are the procurement of a water tank, a biogas system, and a photovoltaic system, the financing of a new well, and the construction of greenhouses that contribute to sustaining the home. The goal is to make the children’s home self-sufficient.

With a view to the current politically-unstable situation in Nepal, ESPRiT feels that it is particularly important to maintain its commitment to work in the community. This year much of the infrastructure in the area around the orphanage was damaged by extremely strong monsoon rains, so there is an ongoing requirement for aid and support. Nepal Aid Beilngries provides ESPRiT with plenty of feedback: For example, they make presentations at various company meetings, so that ESPRiT employees can keep track of exactly what happens to their money.

Initiative: “Art for Kids – We Are Helping!”

In the spring of 2007, a group of enterprising students at the University of Applied Sciences in Rosenheim founded the university initiative “Art for kids – we are helping!” within the framework of a seminar project. As ESPRiT Consulting strongly values support for children and young people, the consulting firm decided to actively support this initiative.

After six months of planning, the time had finally come for action: On 22 November 2007, the six business administration students hosted the charity event “Art for kids – we are helping!” at the Lokschuppen Exhibition Center in Rosenheim. The goal of the event was to raise money for children from socially-deprived areas in Rosenheim as well as kids from the home “Schöne Aussicht”. A program of events had a colorful array of highlights, and was led by the radio presenter Michael Praetorius. Close to 170 guests from the art world, politics, and business attended the event. They were treated to a variety show that included musical accompaniment, with classical music, a local a cappella band, and Latin rhythms, as well as a state-of-the-art fashion show and a revue performance by a Bavarian comedian. In addition, representatives from the projects that benefited from the proceeds of the evening went on stage to give a personal presentation of their projects. Furthermore, the students organized a tombola, and auctioned off artworks that had been provided free of charge by the artists.

Ronny Kübrich, one of the responsible students, comments: “We are delighted about the absolutely positive response we have received. We have really learnt a lot, and it has been fun to see that we can really make things happen. That’s why we want to establish this initiative as a long-term project at the University of Applied Sciences in Rosenheim. We would like to take this opportunity to thank ESPRiT and all of our other sponsors.”

ESPRiT has been impressed by this project because it combines two socially-important aspects: Firstly, it gives better prospects to socially-disadvantaged children in Rosenheim, and secondly, the students from the University of Applied Sciences in Rosenheim have taken on responsibility for themselves, and have learnt in practice how such a huge event is organized.

ESPRiT Sponsoring: Cyclist with a Handicap

At first Yvonne Marzinke only cycled with her mountain bike for fun but at the competition “World games of mountain biking 2004” in Austria the Bavarian state team noticed her great talent. With more professional training she became more and more successful: 2006 and 2007 she won the World Games of Mountainbiking, placed second and third place at the German championship, placed eighth at the UCI world championships in Bordeaux, France in both street and track races. Her biggest success so far was the third place at the UCI Para Pan American Games in Columbia in 2007. “Finding sponsors in cycling has become a lot more difficult. But especially in paralympic sports we depend very much on external funding as there are very few official funds. This is why I work 40 hours a week in spite of my tough training schedule. I am very pleased that ESPRiT has decided to sponsor me and I will continue to my very best in performing well in my races to come” explains Yvonne Marzinke.

The programme for 2008 was ambitious: The biggest goal was the qualification for the Paralympics in Beijing, China. However, due to intransparent decisions and in spite of outstanding results she was not nominated. But in 2009 she gained the third place at the "UCI Para-Cycling World Championships" in Manchester. ESPRiT congratulates and wishes her the best of luck for all her future accomplishments.

Sponsoring the TSG Usingen Soccer Team

ESPRiT Consulting has a special commitment to kids and young people. Increasingly, German sports clubs are losing members. Modern media have a strong influence on today’s society, and less and less young people engage in physical exercise. That’s why ESPRiT supports local club sports and has sponsored the under-sevens team of TSG Usingen, near Frankfurt/Main, by providing them with a set of soccer jerseys.

This squad of five- and six-year-olds has been training together for a long time, and has already shown some considerable successes: In the summer of 2007, they came first in three different tournaments. Since the beginning of that season, the little players have been asking where their team is in the table, but unfortunately there is no league table for this age group yet.

Introducing the team:

  • Sefa: He sometimes trains with the competition, but prefers to play in his ESPRiT jersey. With 30 goals, he is the undisputed leading top scorer of the team.
  • Felix: He scored his first goal in the first game that he played in his new jersey, and now he dreams about it every night!
  • Sven: He is going to be a professional soccer player! He is just not quite sure if he wants to play for Bayern Munich or Werder Bremen. Either way, he will definitely be playing for the German national team at the 2022 World Cup.
  • Nils: He always plays with the number 5 on his jersey, and that’s why he’s known as the “Usinger Beckenbauer”.

ESPRiT in Company Race / Girls Run for Breast Cancer Research

ESPRiT Consulting has been taking an active part in the Munich Company Race for the last few years. Around 30,000 participants from various Munich companies participate in the run, and have the opportunity to prove their fitness over the 6.75 km course in the Munich Olympic Park. There were 23 runners in ESPRiT jerseys in the last race, which took place in July 2009.

It was at this event that the female participants in the team came up with the idea of combining their own sporting activity with a good cause and the social commitment of the company. Another Munich-based event, the Avon Women’s Race Against Breast Cancer, was the perfect opportunity.
On 5th October 2008, the six ESPRiT girls found the motivation to run the five kilometer course through the English Gardens. ESPRiT Consulting paid both the starting fee and a charitable donation of 500 euro for the entire running team.
This money went 100 percent to projects run by the Bavarian Cancer Society. This organization is concerned with the prevention of breast cancer, and also provides direct, unbureaucratic support for women affected by the disease.

eCh.ch

ESPRiT Consulting supports the standardization initiative eCh.ch. The Swiss association is a platform for the promotion of eGovernment standards. By establishing and coordinating appropriate standards, eCH makes electronic communication between government authorities easier. Communication between the authorities and private individuals, companies, organizations, and training and research establishments is also made more straightforward. In addition, eCH encourages the adoption of international standards and seeks to cooperate with other national and international organizations that are working towards standardization.

ESPRiT Consulting was involved from the beginning and leads the specialist group “Process Inventory”. This group has the following goals:

  • The most complete overview possible of processes relevant to eGovernment, which can be referred to for the prioritisation of eCH work, strategy formation, and security considerations
  • Comparison with inventories (experience) from other countries
  • Highlighting of the most important dependencies between the processes and of core entities
  • Proposals for documentation guidelines
  • Clustering of processes

The specialist group “Process Inventory” is chaired by Lars Erdmann, an ESPRiT Consulting Partner with responsibility for technology issues.
